About

Natalia GrichinaThis is how it all started. I always had a passion for the arts and hand crafted things. I tried drawing and oil painting. Even though pottery was on my bucket list, next to glass fusion, it might have never happened, but in 2008 I went to Jamaica on vacation and noticed a beautiful clay vase on display at a local shop. Well, it was way too big and way too expensive, so…

Pottery vaseBack home I started to search for Jamaican pottery online and that search lead me to the website of the local pottery artist Jason L’Abbe who didn’t have any Jamaican vases, though his own pottery was beautiful, and he was offering classes at his studio in Uptown Waterloo. I decided to give it a try, and that’s how my fascination with clay began. It is just like magic: I can turn a piece of clay into something else – a mug, a jar, a plate, a bowl… and – of course – a vase!
